An hour or two ago we just returned from a team trip to the island of Chiloé. We left 8:00 am on Saturday. As a team we probably took thousands of pictures, many in the rain. I've weeded out the duplicates from mine and still have 100.
The pictures below are from the ferry trip to Chiloé:

Our first stop was a town called Dalcahue where we stopped to see the village wharf. One the way to Dalcahue I was surprised by the landscape. It was much different that what I saw on the way to Hornopirén on Tuesday. It was very much like something I would see driving back home. When arrived at Dalcahue we stopped to walk around the town. I was amazed by the local cemetery. It was very colorful and well taken care. The tsunami hazard sign also caught my attention.
From Dalcahue we traveled to Castro where we visited a church, walked around town, stopped to look at some houses on stilts, and had lunch. We also celebrated Masahiro's 30 birthday. Actually, we celebrated Masahiro's birthday for two days. We started celebrating when midnight struck in Japan and ended when midnight struck on Saturday.
While we were eating lunch it started to rain. That did not stop us from continuing on to the Chiloe National Park for a hike. We walked for an hour in pouring rain with a driving wind. It was very reminiscent of the scene from the movie Caddyshack where Carl (played by Bill Murry) says, "I don't think the heavy stuff's gonna come down for quite awhile." After the hike we poured ourselves back into the bus and continued to Acud, stayed at a local hostal, and had dinner.
On Sunday morning we toured around Ancud. We visited the remains of an old Spanish fort which was next to our hostel, visited a local museum, and spent time wandering the city.
After Ancud we traveled to Punihuil. Along the way we stopped at a scenic lookout to take pictures. When we arrived at the beach in Punihuil the surf was up so high that we had difficulties getting onto the beach. The bus driver had to stop in the surf for a while so he could find the shallowest path to cross onto the beach.
We were supposed to take a boat out from the beach to see penguins on the local islands. Unfortunately, it was very windy and the surf was too bad. That did not stop us from having a good time. We drove on the beach to a local restaurant. After eating the weather cleared up enough for us to climb a hill and take some very scenic pictures. We walked on the beach before heading back to Puerto Montt.
If you look carefully there are a few pictures where you could see some penguins.
Unfortunately I don't have the best picture of the day, which was a picture of the team jumping in the air. I think we really under estimated how difficult it is to get 12 people to jump at the same time. After many tries we finally did it!
